	Wrote to <rs type="person" ref="ref:WF1">Fuller</rs>, about auctioneer being joined as defendant etc.<note>in <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:APP">Antigua</rs></bibl> eds.</note>

            <p>Various small <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:APP">Antigua</rs></bibl> points.</p>
            <p>Helped <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ba4">Bartolome</rs> and <rs type="person" ref="ref:AM2">Antonio</rs> the Murcian to put large stone table in position.  They had already fixed the one in the grotto.  The centres joining the stones to the pillars are made of Portland cement mixed with water paint — red, green, blue.</p>

	Olive tree nearest the flower-bed being cut down by the two Sebastians<note>

               <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ba4">Bartolomé</rs> and <rs type="person" ref="ref:Am1">Amador</rs> fetched stones from <rs type="place" ref="ref:Can07">Can Mado</rs> (pulling down an old oven there).</p>

Then in afternoon worked on <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:Dra"><hi rend="text-decoration: underline;">Drama</hi></rs></bibl> for <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:Ep3"><hi rend="text-decoration: underline;">Epilogue</hi></rs></bibl>

	Olive tree in drive felled.  <rs type="person" ref="ref:LR1">Laura</rs> also condemned one by turn of drive.</p>
            <p>To <rs type="place" ref="ref:Pos1">Posada</rs> where <rs type="person" ref="ref:Mi1">Miguel</rs> has put on lavatory door, painted kitchen door, etc.  Will finish tomorrow.</p>
            <p>Reading Greek dramatists for <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:Dra">drama</rs></bibl> notes.</p>

               <rs type="person" ref="ref:LR1">Laura</rs> went to bed, early not feeling well.</p>

	Went with <rs type="person" ref="ref:JM1">Gelat</rs> for walk to <rs type="place" ref="ref:Vin02">Vinyet</rs> which was being ploughed by a white-faced mule with a red nose-band.  Solomon<note>Graves' dog eds.</note> thought this was blood &amp; got very excited.</p>
            <p>24 hour strike in <rs type="place" ref="ref:Pal1">Palma</rs> as protest against bombing of trades-union headquarters (nine injured). So no letters.</p>
            <p>
               <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ba4">Bartolome</rs> has finished path, is building seat beside it.</p>
            <p>Watered plants at the <rs type="place" ref="ref:Pos1">Posada</rs>, which have taken well.</p>
            <p>Rewrote first page of <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:APP">Antigua</rs></bibl> for the third or fourth time.</p>
            <p>Reading the Greek tragedians.</p>

News came at 11 of the death of his aunt by cancer (<rs type="person" ref="ref:FC1">Francisco</rs> the carpenter's wife) so he knocked off. Went to <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ma1">Margarita</rs> for my new trousers: not started, of course.</p>
            <p>
               <rs type="person" ref="ref:Mi1">Miguel</rs> brought framed picture of <rs type="place" ref="ref:Tol01">Toledo</rs>: &amp; round table to <rs type="place" ref="ref:Pos1">Posada</rs>.</p>
            <p>Wrote four pages for <rs type="person" ref="ref:LR1">Laura</rs> about Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides<note>for <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:Dra">Drama </rs></bibl>eds.</note>.</p>
            <p>To <rs type="person" ref="ref:LH1">L.H.</rs> in answer to his: explaining my feelings.</p>
            <p>Still cold weather, no need for mosquito netting yet. One pear tree has only just begun to leaf.</p>
            <p>Flowers put in a week ago have all taken well. <rs type="person" ref="ref:AB5">Abelins</rs><note>Abelens K.G.</note> are leaving <rs type="place" ref="ref:Dey1">Deyá</rs>.</p>

            <p>
	Incorporated 'stosia' dream in <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:APP">Antigua</rs></bibl>.</p>
            <p>To <rs type="place" ref="ref:Pal1">Palma</rs> for bull-fight at 11.30</p>
            <p>It should have been Lalanda, <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ar1">Armillita</rs>, <rs type="person" ref="ref:Or1">Ortega</rs>; but <rs type="person" ref="ref:ML4">Lalanda</rs> had sprained his ankle in a bull fight in France, and <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ar1">Armillita</rs> is a Mexican and the Mexican bullfighting dispute is still unsettled, so we had <rs type="person" ref="ref:CC3">Curro Caro</rs> and Pericas. <rs type="person" ref="ref:CC1">Curro Caro</rs> was brave but nervous and the bulls were very large and to be nervous about. Pericas's first visit to <del hand="ref:h_RG">
                  <rs type="place" ref="ref:Maj1">Mallorca</rs>

               </add> (his native city) as a matador so he had stage fright and was knocked down by his first bull not gored and lost consciousness until after the fight. <rs type="person" ref="ref:Or1">Ortega</rs> was better than ever and from our good seats (17 pesetas) we could see him close and hear him talking to the bull. <rs type="person" ref="ref:CC1">Curro Caro </rs>threatened, <rs type="person" ref="ref:Or1">Ortega</rs> commanded. <q><foreign>Mira me, toro</foreign>!</q><note>

               </unclear> when he had him in position told him to wait a moment while he killed him. <rs type="person" ref="ref:Or1">Ortega</rs> got ears and tail for Perica's bull, no other awards, though there was a protest that <rs type="person" ref="ref:CC1">C.C.</rs> didn't get something for his last bull, which he killed well, taking advantage of his tallness.</p>
            <p>We met in <rs type="place" ref="ref:Pal1">Palma</rs> the <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ti1">Tio</rs>'s (<rs type="person" ref="ref:Ti1">Pedro</rs> &amp; <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ti1">Catalina</rs>) <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ca4">Castañer</rs> &amp; 4 nieces, and <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ba2">Barcelo</rs>'s daughter and son-in-law.</p>
            <p>
               <rs type="place" ref="ref:Len01">Lena's</rs> was awful. <rs type="person" ref="ref:Fr5">Francisca</rs> stayed in <rs type="place" ref="ref:Pal1">Palma</rs>, the <foreign>maestro</foreign><note>school-master K.G.</note> returned with us.

               <rs type="person" ref="ref:Ba4">Bartolomé</rs> finished the bench with a design on the back worked out by all 3 of us.</p>
            <p>
               <rs type="person" ref="ref:WF1">Fuller</rs> sent <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:APP"><hi rend="text-decoration: underline;">Antigua</hi></rs></bibl> (all but 2<hi rend="vertical-align: super;">nd</hi> Trial chapter) – Incorporated all the changes I had made in first copy.</p>

               <hi rend="text-decoration: underline;">Women's education in the East</hi><note>for <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:Sch">Schools</rs></bibl> eds.</note>.</p>
            <p>
               <rs type="person" ref="ref:JM1">Gelat</rs> came with a long report. The Education committee referred the <foreign>maestra</foreign><note>school-mistress K.G.</note>'s complaint to the mayoralty, <rs type="person" ref="ref:JM1">Gelat</rs> called a meeting of parents, one of whom (was prompted to) brought up question of her nationality – This was put in writing: if she consents to exchange she won't be turned out. If she doesn't she will.</p>
            <p>The water thing is practically settled. <rs type="person" ref="ref:JM1">Gelat</rs> has conditioned that a certain pipe be put at the <foreign>fuente</foreign><note>spring K.G.</note> source to go down to the claimants. This leaves half the water to him, and he will divert the stream to the <foreign>deposito</foreign><note>resevoir K.G.</note> which will always remain full: &amp; he has hours free from 4 in the morning to 9 every day. The road business shelved, apparently to save the staff-colonel's face. The school may be built for nothing by applying for 5 units (3 schoolrooms, library, doctor's consulting room) at 12,000 <choice>
                  <abbr>pes.</abbr>

            <p>In evening <rs type="person" ref="ref:LR1">Laura</rs> did one page of <bibl><rs type="cita" ref="ref:APP">Antigua</rs></bibl> with me, grew tired, went to bed.</p>
