Revised Chapter 4
3[RG] of Antigua 1d
[Penny] Puce. Decided with Laura where to plant the bushes and trees we bought in
Palma— mimosa, two oleanders, tamarisk,
four others whose names we forget. Helped Sebastian to plant them. He grafted the almonds with
nectarines.
The first full glass-ful of carnations: scarlet, pink, yellow and
apricot fringed with red.
Second day of sirocco: very
violent this night: carried away tops of several olive-trees near house,
tiles off houses in the Puig.
Have worked without a brazier
2 for the first time this year, the last two days.
Editorial Notes
1The Albion printing press was installed in Canellun in the
press room next to RG's study. It had been used to print many of the
Seizin Press publications. Laura Riding's Second
Leaf was the last text or other item printed by LR & RG on the
machine. WG
2A brazier was a device in which charcoal was burned to heat
the room. eds
